No fewer than eighty Nigerians have been deported by Libyan authorities after being found detained in different holding facilities across the country or residing without proper documents. The repatriation, carried out on Wednesday via Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, was coordinated by the Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) in collaboration with the Nigerian Consulate.
The group Migrant Rescue Watch, which monitors migrant rights and welfare in Libya, confirmed the operation on X, noting that the deportation followed directives from the Libyan Judicial Police. “Judicial Police Dept., on orders of Public Prosecutor’s Office transferred a group of undocumented migrant females of Nigerian nationality to DCIM custody in Tripoli. All females were served with judicial deportation order and are awaiting deportation,” the organisation stated.
The deportation operation involved judicial oversight, law‑enforcement and consular support, reflecting a coordinated approach to migration management. The event highlights the ongoing challenges faced by undocumented migrants in Libya and underscores the importance of legal migration channels and safe repatriation efforts.
