In a major relief for Nigerian retirees, the Federal Government has disbursed ā¦3.9 billion in outstanding arrears to 91,146 eligible pensioners under the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD). The payment, made under the Defined Benefit Scheme, follows the recently approved ā¦32,000 pension increment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ā a development retirees across the country have long awaited.
The disbursement cuts across several pension departments, reaffirming the governmentās renewed commitment to clearing long-standing obligations and improving the welfare of its senior citizens. According to the breakdown, ā¦1.9 billion was paid to 59,865 pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department; ā¦830 million went to 12,976 Civil Service retirees; ā¦620 million reached 9,689 Police pensioners; while ā¦551 million was disbursed to 8,616 pensioners from Customs, Immigration and Prisons.
PTADās Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, emphasized the significance of this payment, noting that it aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda focused on restoring dignity to retirees. She stated that the completion of the arrears is more than a financial exercise ā it is a demonstration of the administrationās commitment to pension reform and fairness.
Odunaiya highlighted the agencyās ongoing efforts to ensure that retirees receive their entitlements promptly. She stressed that no eligible pensioner would be left behind, adding that the agency continues to work towards eliminating arrears entirely while improving transparency and efficiency in pension administration.
The Executive Secretary also reassured pensioners that PTAD will continue to monitor payments and strengthen its systems to ensure consistent support nationwide. For thousands of retirees who have waited patiently for their entitlements, this disbursement marks not just financial relief, but renewed confidence in the governmentās commitment to their welfare.
