The Department of State Services (DSS) has recaptured Abdulazeez Obadaki, a top commander of the Ansaru terrorist group, who escaped during the 2022 Kuje Custodial Centre jailbreak. Security sources confirm he was one of the 879 inmates who fled when militants attacked the prison.
Obadaki is believed to have masterminded several high-profile attacks, including a coordinated raid on banks in Uromi, Edo State, and a fatal shooting at a Deeper Life College in Okene, Kogi State. According to intelligence reports, he played a central role in planning and executing these operations.
Operatives tracked Obadaki through a carefully organized intelligence operation, leading to his arrest after more than three years on the run. This breakthrough is seen as a major win for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts, especially at a time when the Ansaru network remains under pressure.
Security analysts note that Obadaki’s recapture could provide crucial insights into Ansaru’s operational structure and network. The arrest strengthens the government’s narrative of increasing effectiveness and coordination among its security agencies in dismantling extremist factions.
