🇮🇱Israel Military Kills Two Hezbollah Members in Southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that two Hezbollah operatives were killed in strikes in southern Lebanon, marking a renewed escalation despite a fragile ceasefire.

According to the IDF, one of the men killed was Mohammed Ali Hadid, identified as a commander in Hezbollah’s Radwan Force, an elite unit. The strike took place in Nabatieh Governorate, where Israel alleges he had been helping to reestablish Hezbollah infrastructure in the south. The second individual reportedly was gathering intelligence on Israeli troops near the border.

Israeli authorities described the strikes as precise and justified, citing ongoing threats from Hezbollah, which they claim has violated the ceasefire agreed in late 2024.

From the Lebanese side, the Ministry of Health reported that two people were killed and several others were wounded during the strikes.

These incidents come amid heightened tension between Beirut and Tel Aviv. While a ceasefire was established in 2024, Israel contends that Hezbollah has not fully complied with its terms, particularly regarding its military presence south of the Litani River.

In response, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized that disarming Hezbollah is a delicate issue. He warned that forcing disarmament could destabilize internal Lebanese peace, underscoring the need for a measured and careful approach.

Implications & Analysis

  • The strikes highlight Israel’s intent to degrade Hezbollah’s southern capabilities, specifically targeting its elite Radwan Force.
  • For Lebanon, these attacks increase domestic pressure: while officially supporting disarmament, the government faces concerns that aggressive enforcement could spark further conflict.
  • The deaths may weaken Hezbollah tactically but also risk provoking retaliatory actions.
  • This event illustrates the fragility of the current ceasefire, raising questions about its long-term stability and the potential for renewed violence.
