🇳🇬 Wike Dismisses PDP Expulsion as “Detty December in November”

FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike has dismissed his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), calling it a raucous social gathering rather than a serious political process. In a fiery statement, his aide said delegates traveled to Ibadan to party — not to deliberate — marking what Wike’s camp described as “Detty December in November.”

According to Wike’s team, the convention’s atmosphere was that of a celebration. After drinking and carrying on, they believe, attendees felt free to make grand declarations that should carry no real weight. Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, insisted that any pronouncements coming from such a “carnival‑like” event are not legitimate.

Wike, along with former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, was expelled by PDP delegates at the party’s national convention in Ibadan. The motion was moved by veteran party leader Bode George and seconded by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.

The expulsion has steadily deepened tensions within the party. Some leaders, including Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, have openly distanced themselves from the decision, warning that such moves risk tearing the PDP apart.
