The false report, which spread widely on Friday, November 14, alleged that the former governor died after a prolonged battle with a heart-related illness — triggering shock, confusion, and concern among supporters.

In a personal statement released shortly after the rumour gained traction, Obiano reassured the public that he is very much alive and healthy. He described himself as hale, hearty, and in excellent condition, expressing gratitude to God and to all those who reached out with prayers and messages of concern. He lamented the rising trend of malicious misinformation, noting that some people seem to find satisfaction in spreading falsehoods.

Obiano thanked Ndi Anambra, friends, and well-wishers who expressed genuine worry over the viral claims. He encouraged the public to disregard the rumour entirely, adding that he remains focused and guided by God’s grace.

Willie Obiano served as Governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022 after succeeding Peter Obi. Born on August 8, 1955, he hails from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area and remains an influential figure in the state’s political landscape.
