KANO,- A fresh chapter begins as ex-Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, steps into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), leaving behind the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP); a quiet shift that redraws political lines ahead of the 2027 general polls.

Later that month, Kwankwaso put pen to paper at his home known as Gidan Kwankwasiyya, signing up with the ADC under eyes of notable opposition leaders like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. Though chatter has swirled around the fresh-off-the-line Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), come Saturday he still stands tall within the ADC alliance.

Opposition Realignment
he breakaway boosted ADC numbers fast. Now it stands tall among Nigeria’s key opposition groups. Top rivals showed up when Kwankwaso signed on. That moment looked less like a formality, more like groundwork for a broader coalition down the road. Come election season, things might shift again.
NNPP Severance

Ties snapped with the NNPP. Early in 2026, top figures within the party stated clearly: the ex-governor lost authority to speak for them. That moment closed months of quiet clashes after the 2023 race for president.

The NDC Variable
Backed by Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, the Nigeria Democratic Congress got its nod from INEC come February 2026. While it claims space for new voices in politics, those close to Kwankwaso stay silent on joining – still tied to the ADC alliance instead.
