Nigerian troops killed 40 suspected terrorists, foiled multiple attacks and recovered weapons and ammunition in coordinated operations across the country over a 24-hour period, the Defence Headquarters said Saturday.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, providing an update on the latest round of nationwide security operations, said troops engaged terrorist elements, kidnappers and armed criminal groups across several theatres, disrupting attempts to regroup and carry out fresh attacks.

Details of the operations were not immediately broken down by region, but the report follows a pattern of near-daily and weekly briefings from Nigeria’s military highlighting operations under joint task forces including Hadin Kai in the North East, Fansan Yamma in the North West, and Enduring Peace and Whirl Stroke in the North Central region, targeting Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents as well as armed bandits and kidnapping gangs.

The update comes days after Nigeria’s military reported airstrikes killing dozens of terrorists in Borno State, part of intelligence-led operations against ISWAP concentrations in the Lake Chad region. Nigeria’s armed forces have sustained an intensified nationwide campaign in recent months, with monthly figures released by the Defence Headquarters showing more than 100 terrorists killed and hundreds of kidnap victims rescued in July alone.
