Barcelona confirmed on Tuesday the signing of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, closing out the transfer with hours to spare before the window shut.
The 29-year-old joins on a permanent deal reported to be worth an initial €10 million, roughly $11.6 million, with further add-ons that could push the fee higher. He has signed a three-year contract running until 2029.
“Arsenal and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Jesus to the Blaugranes. The Brazilian striker signs on as a culer for three seasons,” the club said in a statement.
Jesus becomes Barcelona’s sixth signing of the summer, joining Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri, João Cancelo and Dominik Livaković at Camp Nou under coach Hansi Flick. The move ends Barcelona’s search for a recognized No. 9 following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, though a source told ESPN the club retains long-term interest in Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez, who had been Flick’s priority target before Atlético refused to negotiate.
Flick said he had been surprised the opportunity arose, adding that Jesus fits the style of play he wants from his forward line.
Jesus fell out of favor at Arsenal in recent seasons, with Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyökeres preferred as the club’s frontline options, and injuries limited his appearances. He joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022, having scored 95 goals in 236 appearances during his time at City after breaking through at Palmeiras in Brazil.
