Governors elected on the platform of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who are serving their first term unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office at a meeting in Kebbi State on Tuesday, backing the continuation of his administration beyond 2027.

Of the 20 first-term APC governors seeking re-election themselves, four were absent from the meeting. In a communiqué issued afterward, the governors said their support rested on the need for policy continuity, economic stability and sustained national reforms rather than partisan politics, citing what they called Tinubu’s courageous leadership and reform agenda.

“We declare our total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu… and for the continuity of the Renewed Hope Agenda beyond 2027,” the communiqué read, framing their backing as a commitment to national recovery and democratic stability.

The governors urged Nigerians to remain patient with ongoing economic reforms, arguing the alternative to staying the course would undermine progress already made, while pledging to expand relief measures for vulnerable citizens. They also committed to prioritizing agriculture, education, healthcare, rural infrastructure, youth and women’s empowerment, job creation and energy access in their own states, saying their re-election bids would be based on performance rather than political messaging.

The endorsement adds to a string of similar declarations from APC governors and party blocs over the past year, as the ruling party works to consolidate support behind Tinubu ahead of the 2027 vote, even as opposition figures explore forming a coalition around a rival platform.
