The Federal Government has suspended the planned 15% import duty on petrol and diesel, a policy that
was expected to take effect in December. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority announced the cancellation following concerns raised by fuel marketers, who warned that the tariff could disrupt fuel supply and increase reliance on local refining.
Authorities have assured Nigerians that fuel supply remains stable and urged citizens to avoid panic buying. The suspension is viewed as a move to prevent price hikes and maintain market stability ahead of the year’s end.
