Super Typhoon Fung-wong has slammed into the northeastern coast of the Philippines, bringing devastating rains, landslides and powerful winds that forced more than 1 million people to evacuate.

The storm, with sustained gusts up to 143 mph, triggered flash floods and storm surges, particularly in eastern Samar and Catanduanes provinces. Authorities have declared a state of national emergency, while thousands remain without power and critical infrastructure has been severely damaged. The timing is especially perilous, coming just days after another deadly storm, and disaster response teams are scrambling to aid those displaced.
