Table of Content

In a dramatic development, two schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State have successfully escaped from the camp of their captors, bringing a glimmer of relief amid a tense and ongoing security situation. The girls were among 25 students taken from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, in a violent attack that shook the community and the nation.

During the abduction, the school’s Vice Principal, Hassan Makuku, tragically lost his life, highlighting the brutality of the attack and the risks faced by educators and students in the region. Following the abduction, security forces — including the Nigerian Army and Police — immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation, combing forests and surrounding areas to locate the missing students.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has personally instructed troops to intensify intelligence-led operations aimed at rescuing all remaining abducted girls safely. At the same time, the Federal Government has condemned the attack and reassured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

The escape of these two girls brings hope not only to their families but also to the wider community affected by the surge in banditry across parts of northern Nigeria. Security analysts note that while such escapes are rare, they demonstrate resilience, courage, and the critical importance of prompt action by authorities.

As the rescue operation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure the safe return of the remaining students. Meanwhile, families, residents, and concerned citizens remain vigilant, praying for the safety of the children still in captivity.
