ACCRA, April 16 — Authorities in Ghana have arrested a man who allegedly drove off with a police armoured vehicle in a rare security breach that triggered a swift pursuit.

Police said the incident occurred when the vehicle was temporarily unattended in a public area, allowing the suspect to gain access and flee, drawing attention from startled bystanders.

Security forces quickly launched a coordinated response, tracking the vehicle across nearby routes before intercepting it and taking the suspect into custody without reported injuries.

The armoured vehicle was recovered intact, officials said, adding that investigations are underway to determine how the breach occurred and whether safety protocols were violated.

Incidents involving the theft of high-security vehicles are uncommon, and the case has prompted scrutiny over operational procedures, particularly regarding the handling of sensitive equipment in open or crowded environments.

Police have not yet released further details about the suspect or possible charges but said additional updates would follow as the investigation progresses.
