Gunmen Abduct Students and Teachers in Oyo State School Attacks

That Thursday morning, gunmen broke into three schools across Esiele and Yawota. These places sit

within the Oriire district of Oyo State. It happened on May 15. Motorcycles carried the assailants right up to the school gates. Kids and instructors were inside classrooms at the time. Most of those taken were students, along with some teachers – around 46 in total. Teaching was underway when everything shifted. Vulnerability marked that hour. Little warning came before chaos took hold.

A quiet horror settled in after Michael Oyedokun, a teacher taken during the abduction, died while still held captive. His death rippled outward, trembling through villages first, then across the nation.
Right now, a team sent by President Tinubu has arrived – top officials like the National Security Adviser, police chief, and head of defence forces are part of it. Instead of waiting, they moved fast: special rescue troops have been put on alert. One thousand new forest guards will soon be hired, just for Oyo State. A killed teacher’s relatives received words of sorrow from him directly. There might be a military post built there later – he said it’s under review.

What Tinubu said hits hard – nobody ought to lose a kid from school, while grief tears through families still waiting. Rescue teams keep searching, though, step by slow step.
Besides sparking fresh concern, the event now puts a spotlight on how safe people feel in Nigeria’s countryside – school protection included. Where thick woods border villages, danger often slips through unseen. Armed factions use these forest edges like hidden backdoors. Because of this, classrooms nearby sit more exposed than before.
