President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday congratulated Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 60th birthday, describing him as “my brother and partner in steering the ship of our state” and a trusted ally whose service has strengthened the administration.
In a statement personally signed by the president, Tinubu said Shettima was “not just a trusted ally or a valued colleague, but also a patriot whose life has been defined by service, commitment and sacrifice for worthy causes.” He extended his greetings to Shettima’s wife, Nana, and their children, family and political associates.
Tinubu praised Shettima’s banking career and his record of public service as governor of Borno State before becoming vice president, as well as his loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress and his role in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda. As chairman of the National Economic Council, the president said, Shettima had “provided purposeful leadership in coordinating economic policy and fostering collaboration” between the federal government and the states.
“As a trusted partner, his loyalty, wisdom and sense of duty have remained invaluable to the administration,” Tinubu said, thanking the vice president for his “steadfast support” and expressing confidence the pair would keep making progress together.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu also issued a separate birthday message, calling Shettima’s tenure marked by “strength, loyalty, commitment and love for country” and praising his record as a former Borno State governor, senator and banker.
Shettima, who turns 60 on Wednesday, asked well-wishers to mark the occasion with prayers for Nigeria rather than celebrations, citing ongoing concerns over the economy, insecurity and national unity. He became vice president alongside Tinubu following their victory in the 2023 presidential election.
